WOSA WORLD
USA: Snooth People’s Voice Awards and Bloggers’ lunch
2 April 2013
In 2012 Snooth.com, one of the largest social networking wine portals in the world, decided to create a competition, dedicated to their users, in celebration of the fact that they have crossed the million-mark in the number of registered users. Snooth asked their database to nominate and vote for their favourite wines.
The People`s Voice Awards competition was a great success, and on Saturday, March 23, 2013, they hosted a Grand Tasting in the Altman Building in NY, to showcase the winning wines. The event was sponsored by the Cayman Islands, and the 300 international and local USA wines on offer were paired with exquisite dishes made by chefs from the Cayman. Four South African wines were selected by the Snooth public: Mulderbosch Sauvignon Blanc, Simonsig Chenin Blanc, Boekenhoutskloof`s Wolftrap Red and Fairview`s Goats do Roam White Blend. The wineries were allowed to bring two extra wines from their product range to offer to the public that night.
Wines of South Africa participated in the Grand Tasting as part of our Snooth campaign this year. As a result of WOSA`s involvement, the four awarded wineries did not have to pay for their exhibition spaces at the Grand Tasting. The show kicked off with a trade-only-hour, and 200 people from the trade and press attended, followed by 600 enthusiastic consumers who filled up the Altman building - most of them Snooth users. The competition, plus the Grand Tasting were so successful that Snooth has decided to host the competition every year from now on.
On Sunday, March 24th, WOSA and Snooth hosted a South African themed lunch for a group of 24 top wine bloggers who were in town for the Snooth Grand Tasting. Snooth`s sommelier selected 12 exceptional South African wines that were served alongside the wonderful South African dishes that South African Chef, Hugo Uys, created. South African wine expert and Armani Restaurant sommelier, Jim Clark, presented each wine. The bloggers were very impressed by the wines overall, and tweeted and posted during the lunch about their great South African wine discoveries.
